Sisters! And a whole heap of pictures.

Last week/weekend, Scott and I had a female invasion (until Josh arrived, that is)!  Lisa and Ada arrived on Wednesday and Ali and Grace showed up that same night a little later on.  I am so, so glad that my sisters and I get along so well as adults.  We truly love to hang out together, so an occasion to get together is always something to look forward to.

We hit it off!

This trip included a lot of firsts for Ada, who was only 11 weeks old at the time.   First plane rides, first swim, first wedding, and first bath in a bucket.  She is such a happy, adorable baby and won us all over!

She loved it!

Lisa, Ada, Ali, Grace and I did lots of shopping and even got in a pool trip while Ada slept at home with Scott on duty.  It was SO SO hot here during the visit (as it is every day all summer!) so the pool was such a nice escape.

Ali brought us a bunch of goodies for the baby and I’ll include those pictures on my next nursery update post, but included was a bassinet for us to have for when the baby arrives, and it worked out perfectly since Ada used it the whole time for sleeping and napping.  I think she might have been sad to leave it behind when she left.

Grace and I had the fun adventure of working together to clean up a blowout diaper while we were in a restaurant, and I was so impressed with how adept she is…I think she’s gotten a lot of baby practice with her nephew Tripp.  By the time I got Ada’s outfit unbuttoned, Grace already had the wipes and a fresh diaper out of the bag and ready to hand to me.  I think she’ll make a killing in a  few years bringing in the babysitting cash!

Josh arrived Friday night, and on Saturday morning early Ali and Grace had to leave, so not much overlap time there, but Saturday night we had a wedding to go to, and, you know?  It’s true what they say about everything taking longer with a baby.  Who knew?!  But, we all made it to the wedding, and everyone was dressed well, so it was a success.

Don’t you love how color coordinated Lisa and Josh are?  And Lisa made Ada’s dress!

This was practice for Scott and I.

After all the activity on Saturday, we were able to relax for a bit on Sunday and got in some gaming time in Scott’s recently revamped home arcade.  We had a bunch of games going at once and apparently, while possibly seizure-inducing, the lights and sounds of all those games at once is also a fantastic baby-sleep inducer.  But, before she fell asleep, Ada worked on her high-score on Pac-Man a bit.

Lisa also worked on her scores:

And then…Monday morning Lisa and Josh headed down into Austin to do some visiting and it was back to work, as usual, for Scott and I.  And we were sad.  BUT!  They are all coming back soon!  And even more of them! In September!  That’s only weeks away! I’m counting down.  🙂

Busy Bee

Work has been so, so busy lately, and what with family visiting and my packed social calendar (heh.), I just have not had the extra time to post anything other than the standard weekly update progress reports, and I know that can get kind of old after a while, with nothing else to break it up in between.  SO!  Here I am to announce that today marks the official ‘100 days left’ portion of this pregnancy.  After today, we’ll be in double-digit territory!

We have baby furniture on order, two (2!) baby showers in the works (how lucky are we, I ask you?), and the other day I went through the accumulated clothes that this baby already owns…and let’s just say, he won’t be going around naked, that’s for sure.  Everyone is very excited about this baby’s arrival, and I can’t help but feel so amazed that someone who is not even here yet, can have such a huge impact on so many people.

I mentioned before that my friend Kristi is throwing us a local shower here in Austin, and now also the ladies in Scott’s family have also offered to throw a shower in Houston for all the Houston family/friends!  The Austin shower will be on Sept 24th, and the Houston shower will be on Sept 3rd.   I sort of feel like I should start to see if I know anyone in Dallas and San Antonio that also needs to throw a shower, so that my tour of major cities of Texas will be complete.  🙂  Honestly, though, I am so excited for these get togethers with all my family and friends.  I don’t get to see everyone nearly enough, and if you offer me the chance to get to hang out and visit with them all, AND you serve me cake and punch, it’s pretty much the best thing I can think of.

I’ve got another post brewing for sometime in the next several days…sort of a recap of the visit Scott and I just had with some of my family, and there should be pictures included.  I know everyone loves pictures!  Also, I’ll include my most recent midwife appt update. (Spoiler: it went fine).

But for now…back to work!

Baby Shower Info

A quick note to mention that my wonderful friend Kristi has offered to throw me a baby shower, and I couldn’t be more excited!  The date has been set for September 24th, so hopefully it’s enough advance notice for everyone to plan if they can make it.

Invitations will be sent out…this is just a heads up on the date so you can mark it on your calendars/phones/email/foreheads!  It’s an occasion for punch!

This and that….

I had another midwife appointment today and all was good.  Urine checked out fine, baby’s heartbeat was 148 bpm, my fundal height was measuring at 25 cm (I’ll be 22 weeks along on Friday, so baby boy has done some pretty decent growing over the last couple of weeks!), and my weight officially clocked in at 10 lbs up from my starting weight.  My BP was a little high (136/60), but they didn’t seem concerned.  I told them I had still been checking it periodically at home and it was always nice and low, so they were OK with that.

The word is now official that I will begin working part-time hours from home starting at the beginning of August.  This is excellent for so many reasons:

-I’ll still have a bit of money coming in

-I won’t have to make the 25 minute drive to the office 2 times a day (saving me on gas money and eating out lunch money!)

-My workload is going to drop significantly and I’ll be mostly doing behind the scenes, low-stress reports and invoicing, etc.

-I’ll have plenty of time to exercise when want to, take it easy if I need to, nest to my heart’s content and just generally prepare for the upcoming changes.

All in all, I am SO thrilled that my company is making this exception for me – I feel very lucky!  It is not their policy to allow people to work from home, so that they think enough of me as an employee to even want to keep me on part time AND allow me to do it from home means alot.

In other news, Scott and I took advantage of the blazing sun this weekend and went for a nice long walk  at the park (about 4 miles in all).  It was really quite hot, and we largely overestimated the amount of shade that the trail offered, so we both got a bit more sun than intended, but still we had a great time hanging out together.  We had planned to stop at a park along the trail to lay in the sun for a bit, so I wore my new maternity bating suit that is just so darn cute!  I wore the top with some yoga pants for the walking portion, since I thought it would seem really strange for me to just walk the whole trail in just a bathing suit and tennis shoes.

My posture looks bad, but the bathing suit is cute!

We wore ourselves out and were very happy to get back into the truck with some AC blowing full blast.  Once we got home we got cleaned up and went to do the grocery shopping, and by the time were were finishing up with that,  my back was hurting and I was so tired that we headed on home, and once I got the groceries put away, Scott ordered me to the couch, brought me a drink and made dinner, made some tea (my favorite!) and cleaned up the kitchen while I watched some Law & Order.  I know he was exhausted himself and just wanted to sit down, but he handled things without a peep.  He’s pretty awesome like that.

At least one of the three was free.

So, it was my birthday last week.  I have a tradition of refusing to work on my birthday, and this year it worked out great since my birthday landed on a  Friday.  Long weekend! I slept in a bit and met Kristi for a nice long lunch, and was delivered flowers from my very thoughtful husband.

Speaking of whom…he went out on a limb this year for my birthday present, and was hugely successful!  (Though, when is he ever not, am I right?)   Very early on in our relationship he gave me a jewelry box for Christmas and over the years, I have…outgrown it.  A while back I had mentioned in passing that my jewelry collection was starting to unite and form its own government in there, and this was his solution to prevent total anarchy:

This is the best jewelry ‘armoire’ ever.  Both of the sides open for necklace hanging and the top flips up with more space for rings and bracelets and earrings.  And the drawers!  Look at all of those!  The storage possibilities are endless.

To say I love it would be an understatement, but it was not the only new thing that made it into our house recently.  We knew that we needed some art for the living room wall above the couch. It was pretty bare and we wanted to consider the living room ‘done’ so we did some searching and found a piece we liked.  We braved pouring rain and Friday night shopping crowds in order to bring this baby home:

It's technically called 'Autumn Elegance' but we refer to it as 'Red Trees'.

It’s about 5′ by 2.5′ (the picture makes it look deceptively small) and goes great in the room.  Now we can check that room off the list.  On to the next!

And last but not least, we inherited this really cool china cabinet from Scott’s great aunt after she passed away.

I know she would be so happy that we have it, and you would never guess how old it is, given that it looks like such a modern style.  The glass is all original, though, and has that uneven look to it which just makes it that much cooler.  Now that I have a display space for it, all I need to do is pull out the boxes with my grandmother’s china.

If you come to my house for Thanksgiving this year you can eat off of it and feel really special.
